A crucial meeting of community organisations and leaders, organised under the directive of the Embassy of India, was held on August 3 at the ICC Ashoka Hall.

The meeting comes in the wake of an unparalleled disaster that struck Wayanad, Kerala, last week. A natural calamity resulted in massive landslides that devastated the region. One or two areas were completely gutted, and while the exact death toll is yet to be ascertained, it is already in the hundreds. Many have lost their homes and all their belongings.

This tragedy has shocked the Indian community in Qatar, compelling many to come forward to support those who have lost everything. The devastation in Wayanad is unimaginable, and it is a call to action for everyone with a sense of humanity.

The meeting focused on organising support and relief for the victims of the disaster. Community leaders and organisations discussed strategies and mobilise resources to aid those affected.

Many community members and their colleagues attended the meeting. It was an opportunity to unite and extend support to the brothers and sisters of Wayanad who have lost everything in this catastrophe.

On the early hours of July 30, massive landslides hit Kerala’s Wayanad district, burying a large area under debris. More than 100 people have been confirmed dead, and many more are injured. The death toll is expected to rise, given the number of missing persons.

The picturesque hamlets of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha, known for their beauty, have been transformed into scenes of despair. The landslides have cut off these areas from other regions. Vehicles washed away by floodwaters are stuck in tree trunks and submerged in various places, highlighting the extent of the destruction.

The upcoming meeting at ICC Ashoka Hall was a critical step in coordinating relief efforts for the victims of the Wayanad disaster. The Indian community in Qatar is urged to join hands in this humanitarian effort.
