PARIS: The Qatari beach volleyball team will meet its American counterpart on Wednesday, in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Qatari team, consisting of Sherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan, succeeded in qualifying for the quarter-finals after winning in two clean sets against its Chilean counterpart in the match that brought them together on Monday in the round of 16. The American team qualified after winning in two clean sets against Italy.

The Qatari team, the bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, seeks to achieve victory to advance towards winning a new Olympic medal in light of the good level it is presenting in the current Olympic version in France, where it achieved a full score in the group stage after winning the first match against the Italian team consisting of Paolo Nicolae and Samuel Kotava in two clean sets, then in its second match it surpassed its Swedish counterpart consisting of David Ahman and Jonathan Helwig in two sets to one.

In the third match, it defeated the Australian team consisting of Mark Nikolaidis and Isaac Karasher in two sets, and qualified for the round of 16 at the top of Group One, before defeating Chile in the round of sixteen and seeking to win against the American team on Wednesday to advance to the semi-finals.

This is the third consecutive participation for the Qatari team in the Olympic Games, as it aspires to achieve a new achievement to be added to its series of continental and global achievements, the most prominent of which is winning the gold medal in the Asian Games twice -- in Jakarta and Palembang 2018, and Hangzhou 2022 -- in addition to the bronze medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
