Aditya Vivek, a student of MES Indian School (MESIS), Abu Hamour branch, has earned the bronze medal in the inaugural International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO), held from August 1 to 7, 2024, in New Clark City, Pampanga in the Philippines.

Organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), INSO brought together students from 14 countries to compete in rigorous examinations of nuclear science knowledge and skills.

Aditya was one of four students representing Qatar, all of whom were carefully selected and trained by nuclear scientists and instructors from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The Olympiad aimed to increase awareness of the peaceful applications of Nuclear Science and Technology (NST) and foster interest in NST among secondary school students. Participants were tested through both theoretical and practical exams, with winners announced on August 6, 2024, during the closing ceremony at the SMX Convention Centre in New Clark City.

During the event, contestants visited key facilities such as the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) and the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, gaining hands-on experience and deeper insights into nuclear science.

Aditya’s achievement at INSO adds to his impressive record, having recently won a Diamond Award and an Honourable Mention at the International Science & Physics Olympiad (IsPhO) in Russia, as well as a Silver Honour in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics online competition.

Principal of MESIS, Pramila Kannan, along with the school’s management and teachers, have expressed their pride and extended heartfelt congratulations to Aditya for his outstanding accomplishments.
