Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar HE Dr Mustafa Goksu has emphasised the significance of the timing of the working visit of the Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Ankara, Turkiye, on Thursday.

He said the visit comes amid the current situation in Gaza, particularly with the recent Israeli escalation and the assassination of the Hamas Political Bureau chief Dr Ismail Haniyeh.

He noted that the meeting between HH the Amir and the Turkish president provided an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Qatar, Israeli attacks on Palestinian territories and regional and global developments.

Ambassador Göksu said Turkish President Erdoğan, during his meeting with HH the Amir, affirmed the commitment to working towards a solution that brings lasting peace and calm to the region and expressed their intention to enhance efforts to achieve results with Qatar.

The envoy underscored Türkiye’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Qatar in political, military, commercial and cultural fields, especially in economic relations, and that solidarity between the two countries will be reinforced by the steps they will take.

Göksu pointed out that the meeting between the two leaders is part of the ongoing efforts of both countries to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian situation in the region.

He added, “Türkiye and Qatar, in addition to their efforts to support Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, continue to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, including food and shelter.”

The ambassador affirmed that the visit is an important link in the ongoing and steady cooperation between Qatar and Türkiye, to enhance mutual interests and promote security, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

He also mentioned that HH the Amir and President Erdoğan discussed details of the 10th session of the Qatar-Türkiye Supreme Strategic Committee, which is scheduled to take place this year.

He noted that the cooperation between Qatar and Türkiye includes adopting an “early recovery plan” for the Gaza Strip post-conflict.

Göksu confirmed that Türkiye closely monitors Qatar’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire and maintain the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, appreciating Qatar’s successful mediation efforts and the prominent mediation role played by the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

He praised the efforts to secure a ceasefire and provide substantial financial and humanitarian aid to those in dire need in the Gaza Strip.
