Seven-time athletics gold medallist Allyson Felix has won an election among Paris Games participants to lead four new members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) athletes’ commission.

The IOC said that Felix was elected with 2,880 votes together with former German gymnast Kim Bui (1,721), Australian twice Paris canoe slalom gold medallist Jessica Fox (1,567) and New Zealand tennis player Marcus Daniell (1,563).

Sprinter Felix won seven gold, three silver and one bronze across five Games, and is the most successful athlete at world champioships with 20 medals, 14 of them gold. She retired in 2022.

The IOC said that 6,576 athletes voted in the various Paris Games Olympic villages from a choice of 29 candidates.

The quartet will serve eight-year terms until the end of the Brisbane 2032 Games as they replace Hungarian swimmer Daniel Gyurta, German fencer Britta Heidemann, Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbaeva and South Korean table tennis player Ryu Seung-min whose terms ended.
