The sixth round of the Mthayel Nabati Poetry Competition concluded at Darb Al Saai Theatre in Umm Salal on Sunday.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture, represented by Qatar Poetry Centre ‘Diwan Al-Arab,’ the competitions, held under the theme of ethics have evidence, saw the qualification of Saudi poet Faisal Nimas Al Riahi for the final round due to be held in December, concurrently with the Qatar National Day 2024.

The sixth round featured fierce completion on the part of the five participating poets, namely Mishal Fahad Al Arjani, Ghaleb Abdullah Al Sharif, Mohsen Hussein bin Hamel, Faisal Namas Al Riyahi and Mohammed Shalah Al Wasmi, with the judging panel comprising Hamad bin Saleh Al Merri and Hamad bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi from Qatar, Deydan Al Merikhi from Saudi Arabia, Mishal Al Zaabi from Kuwait and Mahmoud bin Wahqa from Oman.

The seventh round will be on the theme ‘Trust in Allah, the Almighty,’ and will be available for all poets inside and outside Qatar. The Saudi poet Al Riahi expressed his happiness for this qualification, affirming the strength of this competition among the participating poets in the sixth round.

He lauded the efforts of the Ministry of Culture in Qatar in bringing back poetry and poets to the Qatari literature arena through launching this invaluable contest, which is expected to highlight the rise of new poets in the coming years to nurture literature and poetry in Qatar and the region.

A Member of the judging panel Hamad bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi said the levels of the participating poets have been remarkably evolving, affirming that competitions in the final rounds will be challenging due to the close scores among the participants, as noted by the judging panel.He added that the audience would enjoy the poets’ performances in the upcoming rounds.

Another member of the judging panel Mishal Al Zaabi from Kuwait also affirmed that the sixth round that was specifically dedicated to all nationalities demonstrated the elevated level of this competition, pointing out that the contest became more competitive with each round due to the increasing number of participants.He hoped this brilliance and creativity would continue.

A poet is crowned each month for this nine-month event, with nine poets competing for the title, along with the subsequent positions during the final eliminations, in pursuit of winning the competition’s prize of QR1 million.
