Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is already under pressure in his new job after Monday’s 3-0 defeat in a friendly game against AS Monaco, which Spanish media have called a “wake-up call.”

“This is the first wake-up call,” the Sport newspaper wrote on Tuesday, while Mundo Deportivo wrote the word “Aviso” (“warning”) in capital letters on its first page.

The Don Balón magazine called Barcelona’s performance “ridiculous,” while the Madrid-based AS said the team had “a disastrous presentation.”

Flick, however, remains optimistic about the future. After the game, the former Bayern Munich coach stressed that he was convinced that his team would put in a better performance in their first La Liga at Valencia on Saturday.

Against Monaco, the pressing and passing game, among other things, didn’t work, Flick said. They were unsure of themselves and also made too many individual mistakes, he emphasized.

Barcelona were hosting Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy friendly tournament, which was named after the club’s founder and is held

every year.
