‘Fizaon me har soo...’, a patriotic song penned by Qatar-based poetess Samreen Nadeem Samar, has been released on YouTube.

The song, released on the occasion of Pakistan Independence Day, has been composed and sung by renowned Pakistani singer Khadim Ali Khan and recorded at Sangat Studio, Malir, Karachi.

Samreen has been living with her family in the Middle East for the past 26 years, and they moved to Qatar 12 years ago. Writing poetry since her childhood, Samreen is mainly a ghazal poet but also tries her hands at poems. Her well-acclaimed collection of ghazals titled Khusbo-e-Khayal was released in 2023, in both Karachi and Qatar.

“My book is basically about love, nature, country, and ‘Ishqe Majazi’ and ‘Ishqe Haqeeqi,” remarked Samreen.

She has given life to her words by describing love in a unique way. The book portrays her love for Almighty Allah in the best way possible. She articulately put different aspects to her poetry by touching delicate subjects like hamd, dua and naat. She has successfully touched on the topics of patriotism, nature, and love in her poetry.

A remarkable poetess, Samreen has carved a niche for herself by articulately using delicate subjects in her poetry.

Born in Bahawalpur, she was brought up in Karachi where she studied. She started writing poetry and stories for children’s magazine from her childhood. While she continued writing intermittently, she took to serious poetry writing only a couple of years ago. She made her mark in intellectual circles by participating in literary symposiums (mushaira).

She completed her graduation and post-graduation from the University of Karachi. “I have been privileged to be in an environment of good books collected by my father that motivated me towards literature. My maternal uncle, Abdul Salam Arif, who is a famous Pakistani poet presently settled in Toronto, Canada, is my mentor,” she replied when asked who motivated her towards literature.

Her husband, Abdul Rehman Nadeem, has always supported her in her pursuit of literature.

Her favorite poets and writers include Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Ahmed Faraz, Parveen Shakir, Dr Maqsood Jaffery, Saleem Faouz, and Asif Ali Asif.
