The National Archives of Qatar (NAQ) convened a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Secretary-General Dr Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain, with editors-in-chief and representatives of Qatari newspapers. The focus of the meeting was to discuss a documentation project in the press field that the Archives is currently preparing.

The project’s primary objective is to collect and preserve all print and digital copies of Qatari newspapers. This effort aims to create a comprehensive database and a user-friendly browsing tool to ensure the protection of historical and critical information from loss. The documentation initiative serves as a core pillar for providing archival and invaluable content that researchers can rely on.

This step is part of NAQ’s continuous efforts to safeguard Qatar’s documentary heritage and to document the diverse stages of Qatari newspapers.

NAQ is dedicated to fostering intellectual activity and monitoring Qatar’s history. In addition to collecting, saving, and overseeing documents, the NAQ operates under the provisions of Law No. 7 of 2023, which pertains to documents and archives.

The NAQ also aims to facilitate public access to information, archives, and documents by streamlining the use of these historical materials. This is achieved by setting criteria and policies that regulate the management of public and private documents within the State of Qatar.
