A day after the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani allocated $5 million for the relief of flood victims in the southern Indian state of Kerala, a number of Qatar entities and organisations such as Qatar Airways, Ooredoo and Qatar Red Crescent Society have stepped in to help in the relief efforts for the flood-hit.
While Qatar Airways Cargo has offered to transport relief material free of cost to Kerala, Ooredoo allowed its users to top up any mobile number in India.
On Sunday, Qatar Airways Cargo announced to deliver urgent aid to Kerala as pert of it relief efforts. The cargo carrier has expeditiously organised an operation to deliver relief goods to flood-stricken districts including Cochin and Karipur via the airline's passenger service from Doha to Trivandrum.
In a tweet, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani said,"Under HH the Amir @ TamimBinHamad directives, $5 million has been associated to the flood victims of # Kerala . We extend our sincere condolences to the victims'families & to the Indian people, many of whom have contributed to Qatar's development, wishing the injured a speedy recovery."
Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo Guillaume Halleux said,"We have received earnest requests from the Indian community residing in Qatar seeking support to transport relief aid to southern Kerala, where many of their families and relatives are affected by the worst flood in a century."
"Given the devastating situation, we have rapidly activated a humanitarian operation for offer free transportation of relief goods from Doha to Trivandrum on our daily passenger flight. We are expecting to airlift more than 50 tonnes of much-needed relief goods under the operation, which will run from August 21 to 29. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victims' families and we hope the region will quickly recover from the disaster."
In celebration of Eid Al Adha, Qatar Airways Cargo invites residents of the State of Qatar to generously contribute relief aid, including dry food, water, clothing and medicines to those in need. Much more than just a cargo carrier, Qatar Airways Cargo shares concern for humanitarian crises and has been active in supporting air transportation relief efforts internationally.
Moved by the plight of the flood-hit people of Kerala, Qatar's telecom provider Ooredoo has allowed its users to top up any mobile number in India.

Similarly, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has said it is following the situation in flood-hit Kerala."Information Management Center continues to follow-up in cases of operation continues, the latest developments related to floods in Kerala. The centre will continue to communicate with #Alathad_ata National Assembly in India to gather the necessary information about the damage and needs," the QRCS said in a tweet.
