DOHA: The Ministry of Social Development and Family has held a training course on the rights of persons with disabilities, which included topics related to the reproductive health of persons with disabilities, in addition to preparing a crisis plan for this category in cases of epidemics and conflicts to ensure the provision of the necessary protection and support for them in times of emergency.

The ministry stated on Saturday that the training course was held in cooperation with the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, and the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, noting that the course discussed the importance of enhancing the participants’ capacities in integrating reproductive health and the rights of persons with disabilities into relevant strategies, policies and programmes.

The ministry added that the training programme stressed the importance of continuous education and training for healthcare workers on disability, including providing information on how to coordinate care and provide facilities to address the reproductive health needs of persons with disabilities, and providing complete medical forms for disability cases.

In this context, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Social Development and FamilyMaha Hamad Al Attiyah stressed that the training is important due to the topics and areas it addressed, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants in this training will contribute to enhancing their experience in dealing with important issues.

She added that the Ministry of Social Development and Family appreciates and commends fruitful cooperation with its partners in the United Nations and Arab organizations and bodies concerned with the rights of persons with disabilities.

For her part, Director General of the Arab Organization for Persons with DisabilitiesJahda Abu Khalil explained that the session addressed many important issues, including services provided to persons with disabilities, especially those related to reproductive health and how to develop them in a way that guarantees the rights of persons with disabilities.

In a related context, President of the International Disability Alliance and President of the Arab Organization for Persons with DisabilitiesNawaf Kabbara stressed that the training addresses the reality of persons with disabilities in cases of epidemics and conflicts and how to deal with them, in addition to the role of ministries, government institutions, civil society, and organisations for the rights of persons with disabilities to ensure the greatest possible intervention that protects them under these circumstances.

It is worth noting that the training course is an important opportunity to exchange experiences and expertise related to the category of people with disabilities, which receives great attention from the Ministry of Social Development and Family, as it constitutes part of the state’s priorities within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy.
