Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of its Shaheen-II surface-to-surface ballistic missile on Tuesday, the Pakistani military’s media affairs wing said.

“Pakistan today conducted successful training launch of surface to surface ballistic missile Shaheen-II. The training launch was aimed at training of troops, validating various technical parameters and performance evaluation of different sub-systems incorporated for improved accuracy and enhanced survivability,” the Pakistani Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Senior officers from Pakistan’s strategic plans division, army strategic forces command, as well as scientists and engineers from organizations responsible for strategic developments, observed the training launch, the statement said.

The head of the strategic plans division “appreciated the technical prowess, dedicationand commitment of scientists who contributed towards this land mark achievement,” the statement added. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

also congratulated the scientists and engineers on this accomplishment, the military said.

In May, Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of the Fateh-II guided missile system with a range of 400 kilometres (248 miles). In October 2023, Pakistan also successfully carried out a test launch of the medium-range Ababeel weapon system.
