Sarajevo: The civil protection authority in Bosnia has pulled the bodies of eight refugees and migrants from the Drina border river.

More people were reported missing after a boat carrying around 30 migrants capsized while crossing the river near the small eastern Bosnian town of Bratunac, the official Bosnian-Serb television station RTRS reported on Thursday, citing the civil protection authority.

The Drina river forms the border between Bosnia and Serbia at this point. The migrants were said to have been trying to reach Bosnia by boat from Serbia, according to reports. Some of them managed to reach the shore after the boat capsized. A mother and her young child were reportedly among the missing.

The Drina is considered a dangerous body of water with many rapids and whirlpools. Refugees and migrants frequently drown in the river. (DPA)
