Qatar University (QU) Health hosted its Third Health Sector Meet and Greet, an event aimed at bringing together both new and returning faculty members from the health sector. The event was held under the slogan ‘Collaborate, Innovate, Inspire’, emphasising the university’s dedication to fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking environment within the health sector.

The gathering was attended by prominent figures, including Prof Asma Al-Thani, vice president for health and medical science, as well as the deans of various QU Health colleges. Directors, faculty members, and staff were also present, reflecting the sector’s shared commitment to promoting growth and success within the university.

Dr Asma Al Thani, in her welcome address, emphasised the significance of the new academic year at the QU Health sector, highlighting the institution’s ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation and inclusivity. "It takes me a great pleasure to welcome QU Health’s new and returning faculty and staff. Your presence with us marks a significant moment for our institution as we continue to build a community rooted in excellence, innovation and inclusivity. 2024 has been a landmark year for QU Health, as we have achieved remarkable milestones that demonstrate our focus and commitment to health education and research,” said Dr Asma Al-Thani.

She added, "QU Health comprises five colleges: medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, health sciences, and nursing. This brings up to nine undergraduate healthcare programmes and nine graduate programmes, including an MSc, PhD and high diploma.”

Prof Mohammed Ahmedna, assistant vice president for academic quality and strategy at QU, welcomed the new faculty members with enthusiasm.

Dr Ahmedna provided a comprehensive overview of the faculty and staff structure, highlighting the interconnectedness and collaborative spirit that define QU’s approach to education and research.

Prof Feras Alali, assistant vice president for research and graduate studies, delivered a detailed presentation on the structure and objectives of the Research and Graduate Studies Sector at QU Health. Prof Alali discussed the university’s main health research domains, designed to address critical health challenges both locally and globally.

Prof Alali stated, "It was a pleasure to connect with our new faculty members during the meet and greet session. Your enthusiasm and commitment to advancing research and graduate studies are truly inspiring. Together, we will foster a collaborative environment that supports innovation and academic excellence.”

Dr Feras also provided an overview of the QU Health Cluster’s state-of-the-art facilities and the cutting-edge technology available to faculty and students. These resources, he noted, are crucial for fostering innovation and conducting high-impact research.

Dr Alla El-Awaisi, director of clinical operations and engagement, underscored the importance of the event, stating, "As we embark on this new academic year and work closely with our members, whose expertise and dedication will continue to shape the future of health profession education and research, we are confident that the QU Health sector at Qatar University will continue to make a meaningful impact both regionally and globally.”
