Riga: Estonia has become the latest European Union member state to join the boycott of the Hungarian EU Council presidency under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, meaning it won’t send ministers to attend EU meetings hosted by Hungary for the time being.

"Hungary has abused its role as EU presidency by its actions, seriously undermining its credibility,” a spokesman for the government in Tallinn told Estonian radio on Friday.

Hungary currently holds the six-month rotating presidency of the EU Council. Among other things, this means Budapest is responsible for hosting a series of informal ministerial meetings during that period.

Orbán has been criticized by other EU states for trips to Moscow and Beijing, as well as a visit to see US presidential candidate Donald Trump. (DPA)
