AS many as 286 student-athletes from grades seven to twelve, including 79 new-comers, marked their first day of the academic year 2018-19 at Aspire Academy in Doha recently.
The new-joiners have been selected either by the academy's talent identification process or reference from Qatari sports federations.
The new school year provides the students with a number of innovations, such as the electronic curriculum and introduction of new facilities.
"I would like to welcome staff, teachers, students and parents to the new academic year. I also would like to express a special welcome to the new students that join us this year. Seventy-nine of them have completed the registration procedures, while 11 are still in process," said Jassem al Jaber, school principal.
The achievements of Aspire graduates at the 2018 Asian Games include medals of Ashraf Elseify, who won gold in the men's hammer throw, and Abubaker Haydar, who took home a bronze in the men's 800m.
The new school years also marks the introduction of the new school facilities located in the extension of Aspire Academy that includes new building which contains eight classrooms, two languages labs, a library and the 'Educational Resources Center'.
A special focus in the 2018-19 academic year is the introduction of the electronic curriculum instead of using school books, students work exclusively with tablets.
