Qatar Fuel (Woqod) has floated tenders inviting bids for the construction of four more fuel stations. They will come up on the Orbital Highway and the new Truck Route connecting Mesaieed with Lusail and Al Khor, its CEO Saad Rashed al Muhannadi said on Monday.
Woqod is already working on setting up 26 fuel stations and with floating of tenders it has taken the total number of developing projects to 30. So far this year, the company has opened eight stations.
The sites for four new stations have been identified. It was done in coordination with the Urban Planning Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Each site has been allocated 20,000 square metres for an auto service centre, besides another 20,000 square metres for fuel dispensers, and parking and rest areas.
Provisions have also been made to ensure that each station has separate entrance and exit and adequate space for the internal movement of vehicles.
Moreover, the stations will match the security and safety standards prevalent across Qatar.
Muhannadi said most of the 26 stations under construction will be opened by the end of this year ” the ones at Fareej Kulaip, Old Slata, Lusail City - Fox Hill, Hamad International Airport, Rawdat Al-Hamama, Kharaitiyat, Al Gharrafa (Zaghawa), Wholesale Market, Mesaimeer South, Al-Wakra, Al-Thumama, Al-Froosh, Al-Aziziyah, Umm Ebairiya, Wadi Aba Saleel, Al Messila, West Bay and Onaiza-3.
Woqod is increasing the number of fuel dispensers in the new stations, the chief executive said. This year, the total number is expected to go up by 50 percent from last year. It aims to raise the total number of fuel stations to 120 by the end of 2020.
Muhannadi said Woqod would not miss any opportunity to build a fuel station in any feasible plot allocated inside or outside Doha, regardless of the cost.
