The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced opening of submissions for the 7th Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poets from September 1 to November 30.

The award’s jury will select 30 contestants to compete in the final rounds through three qualifying stages.The first round will feature 15 participants competing in the Classic Poetry Category and 15 participants competing in the Nabati Poetry Category.

At the end of the stages, the jury will select 5 participants from each category to qualify for the semi-final round where 3 winners will be selected from the Classic Poetry Category and Nabati Poetry Category.

The ranking of the three winners in the two categories will then be announced and the first-place winner in each category will be crowned with the title at the award’s closing ceremony.

The committee of the Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poets will print and publish the winning poems as well as create CDs in Katara Studios with the voices of the winning poets.

The annual Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poets, first launched in 2015, aims to deepen the love of the Prophet (PBUH) in the hearts of current generations, encourage, refine and develop young talents, support youth to translate their talent into poems that serve Islam, emphasize the importance of poetry in the unity of the Islamic and Arab nation, and revive Islamic poetry and modern poetic genres within a competitive and interactive space.

The total value of the prizes for the award is QR3.8 million ($1.04 million) in the Classic Poetry Category and Nabati Poetry Category (three prizes for each category). The first-place winner will receive QR1,000,000, the second-place winner will receive QR600,000, and the third-place winner will receive QR300,000.
