His Excellency Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud Al Thani, President of Qatar Paralympic Committee, visited Qatari delegation at the Games Village of the Paris 2024 Paralympics on Tuesday.

His Excellency made an inspection tour of the quarters of the Qatari delegation and was briefed on the progress of work being done by the Qatari administrative delegation, appreciating their efforts to facilitate the tasks of Qatari athletes’ participation at the Games.

Sheikh Abdulrahman met with the Qatari athletes Ali Arshad and Sarah Masoud and stressed on the Qatar Paralympic Committee’s keenness to support the athletes during their participation at the Games. His Excellency also praised the performance of Ali Arshad in the men’s 100-meter T34 final, where he occupied sixth place in the overall ranking.

HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud Al Thani was received during his visit to the Games Village by Dr. Hassan Al Ansari, Secretary-General of Qatar Sports Federation for Persons with Special Needs and Head of the Qatari delegation.

The Qatari delegation headed by Dr. Hassan Al Ansari includes athletes Ali Arshad and his coach Nabil Al Musalmani, athlete Sarah Masoud and her coach Walid Magmoul, physiotherapist Anis Boughmoura, and technical expert Mohammed Suhail.

up preparations

Qatar athletes Ali Arshad and Sarah Masoud stepped up their preparations for their upcoming events. While Masoud will participate in the women’s F33 shot put on Thursday evening, Arshad will compete in the men’s 800m T34 race on Friday morning.

Tunisia’s Jebabli wins silver in men’s 1500m T12

Meanwhile, Tunisian runner Rouay Jebabli won silver medal in the men’s 1500m T12 race on Tuesday morning.

Jebali clocked 3: 44.67 finishing behind Neutral Athlete Alexandr Kostin (3:44.43) with a new Paralympic record, while the bronze medal went to Russian Anton Kuliatin (3:44:94).

With Jebabli’s medal, Tunisia’s tally of medals rose to a total of five, including two gold medals won by Rawaa Tlili and Marwa Brahmi, and three silver medals won by Walid Ktila, Ahmed Ben Mselh, and Rouay Jebabli.

Moroccan Saida Amoudi wins bronze

Moroccan champion Saida Amoudi won bronze in the women’s shot F34 category at the Stade de France. She had a best throw of 7.80 meters. China’s Lijuan Zhou claimed gold with her season’s best throw of 9.14m while Lucyna Kornobys of Poland took silver (8.33m).

This was the Moroccan star’s second bronze medal at the Paris Games. Amoudi had also won a bronze in the same category at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics as well.

Arab nations

Tunisia leads the medals tally among Arab nations having won two gold medals and three silver medals so far to be overall 26th in the rankings, followed by Algeria in 32nd place with two gold medals and two bronze medals, and Morocco in 53rd place with two silver medals and four bronze medals. Kuwait and Iraq share 65th place having bagged a bronze medal each.

China are the overall leaders with 108 medals so far - 50 gold, 38 silver and 28 bronze, followed by Britain in second place with 29 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze, USA with 18 gold, 22 silver and 11 bronze.

Japan win rugby gold

The Japanese wheelchair rugby team won gold defeating USA 48-41 in the final, late on Monday night. After winning bronze in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020, the Japanese team managed to snatch gold winning all five matches it played during the tournament. The USA team had hoped to reclaim Paralympic gold, having last won gold at the 2008 Beijing Games, but were denied by Japan. USA have always been on the podium in wheelchair rugby since the sport was introduced to the Paralympic programme at the 2000 Sydney Games, having claimed two golds, three silver and two bronze.

World champions Australia claimed the bronze beating 2020 Paralympic champions Great Britain 50-48 in the third-place match, led by star player Riley Butt, who is competing in the Paralympic Games for a sixth time.
