Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani called on Finnish companies and investors to take advantage of Qatar’s exceptional economic and investment environment. He highlighted the incentives and legislation in place to encourage foreign investments and promote non-oil exports, positioning Qatar as an attractive destination for international business.

Sheikh Mohammed’s remarks were made during his speech at the Qatar-Finland Business Roundtable in Helsinki. The event, held on the sidelines of the official visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Finland, was attended by Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland Ville Tavio along with representatives of chambers of commerce, business associations, and major companies from bothnations.

In his address, HE the Minister emphasised that the visit of HH the Amir aimed to deepen the bilateral relations between Qatar and Finland. He described the roundtable as a crucial platform for discussing issues of mutual interest and exploring economic, trade, and investment opportunities that could lead to the development of new partnerships between the business communities of both countries.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the significant progress in Qatari-Finnish relations in recent years and expressed optimism for further strengthening bilateral trade. He noted the vast opportunities in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital transformation, financial services, and logistics, urging Finnish companies to capitalise on these prospects.

“The roundtable provides an invaluable opportunity to strengthen economic ties and explore new avenues of cooperation,” said the minister. He emphasized Qatar’s commitment to creating a favorable business environment, supported by comprehensive legislation that facilitates foreign investments, enhances ease of doing business, and promotes diversification away from oil-based revenues.

He concluded by expressing his hope that the meeting would lead to stronger bilateral cooperation, resulting in new partnerships and alliances that would boost trade exchanges and support the developmental aspirations of both nations.

The roundtable featured discussions on the business environments of Qatar and Finland, with both sides presenting their unique strengths and exploring ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors. The event also included several bilateral meetings between Qatari private sector representatives and Finnish producers and exporters to exchange expertise and identify potential areas for collaboration.

A significant outcome of the roundtable was the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation between Qatari and Finnish businesses. These agreements are expected to contribute to increased bilateral trade and investment, fostering a stronger economic partnership between the two countries.
