PICPA Doha LLC (G) (PICPA Doha), a network of Filipino financial professionals in Qatar, recently organised a School Supply Drive by distributing notebooks, papers, pencils, erasers, crayons, and Jollibee kiddie meals to less fortunate students in a remote island community in Mindanao, Philippines.

The CSR event was held on August 3, at Look Jambangan Elementary School in Baluno, Isabela City, Basilan—serving under 100 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade.

PICPA Doha not only focuses on enhancing the professional growth of its members but also values giving back to the community and promoting opportunities for members to engage in volunteer work.

The programme’s theme, ‘Empowering Education, Equip the Future’ was part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts to support students in their academic success and inspire their pursuit of excellence despite facing poverty and lacking the necessary school materials.

Effie Sevillano, CPA, CMA, Chairman for CSR for FY 2024-2025, and Jeremy Santiago, Associate Volunteer for CSR for FY 2024-2025, initiated the campaign to provide essential resources for the children.

PICPA Doha trusts that this basic set of school materials will positively assist students in the beginning of the school year.

Education is a strong weapon that unlocks numerous opportunities, and Effie expressed her hope that they would use the supplies to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.

The event brought together a compassionate community of supporters and leaders in the education sector, all working towards the shared goal of enhancing educational opportunities for these young learners.

The success of this initiative was significantly bolstered by the invaluable support and participation of several key individuals along with PICPA Doha’s President for FY2024-2025 Kathryn Fajardo, CPA, CMA. Special thanks go to Antonia Tanghaji, Public Schools District Supervisor of Isabela North I; Murada Danial, Public Schools District Supervisor of Isabela North II; Rene M. Delgado, School Head of Look Jambangan Elementary School; Jerold Francisco; Karen Joy Taccad-Dela Torre; Christyanne Jhoielle Monterola; Faizal Jr. Amilaan; Al-Rashed Taugiag; Aljabar Musallain; and Akim Mussallain and the teachers of Look Jambangan Elementary School. Their contributions were crucial in making this event a success.

Reflecting on the CSR’s impact, Tanghaji, emphasized the significant challenges faced by students. “Many students walk long distances in the morning, and some miss classes because they don’t have school supplies. We appreciate sponsors who have stepped up to fulfill their requirements,” she said.

“The path to education for these young minds was quite challenging, given their current situation. I have seen firsthand how difficult it was for them. This small gesture of kindness brought immense joy to the children and their smiles were priceless,” Fajardo added.

The smiles and enthusiasm of the students highlighted the positive impact of the initiative and offered a glimpse of their motivation and inspiration. Each item in the supply packages represented more than just a learning tool; it symbolized hope, encouragement, and the community’s steadfast commitment to supporting these young learners and believing in their potential.

The initiative illustrates the power of empathy and collective effort in driving positive change. PICPA Doha remains dedicated to supporting and empowering the next generation, ensuring that the children get the chance to achieve their fullest potential and realise their dreams.
