The Kerala Women’s Initiative Qatar (KWIQ), under the aegis of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) and the Indian Embassy in Qatar, successfully completed the 7th season of its annual Summer Kit Distribution on August 31, 2024. This year, KWIQ marked a significant achievement by distributing 1,250 kits to roadside and landscape workers across Qatar, continuing its mission of spreading hope and relief during the harsh summer months.

The distribution drive, consisting of a convoy of 10 cars, was flagged off from the premises of the Indian Cultural Centre by ICC President AP Manikantan and ICBF President Shanavas Bava. The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including former ICBF and ICC President and a constant supporter of KWIQ, PN Baburajan, ICC Vice President Subramanya Hebbagelu, ICBF Vice President Deepak Shetty, ICC General Secretary Mohan Kumar, ICBF General Secretary Varkey Boban, along with ICBF MC member and KWIQ’s Patron Zareena Ahad, KWIQ’s past President Bini Vinod, and AC member Liji Ratheesh.

KWIQ President Anju Menon expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the community. "This is our way of saying thank you to the hardworking brothers who work in the scorching heat to make our city look beautiful. From starting as a small 100-kit project seven years ago, we have grown to distribute 1,250 kits this year, thanks to the continuous support of our members and community,” she said. Her words resonated with the attendees, highlighting the evolution of this impactful initiative.

The distribution drive was efficiently led by KWIQ’s Welfare Secretary Leena Ollachery, alongside Executive Members Hamna Azad and Faseela Abdul Salam. Each summer kit contained essential items such as juice, water, two types of snacks, and fruits, which provided much-needed relief to workers who brave the extreme summer heat every day. The carefully curated kits were designed to offer both nourishment and a sense of appreciation for their relentless efforts.

KWIQ’s dedicated team, including General Secretary Asha Chungath, Treasurer Lasitha Girish, Joint Secretary Shahina Shamnad, and Executive Members Arsha, Sumayya, Nisha, Sabira, and Shareen, along with a committed group of volunteers, worked tirelessly to ensure the seamless execution of the drive. Their coordinated efforts, from planning to distribution, underscored KWIQ’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of Qatar’s labor force.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the impact that community-driven initiatives can have, especially when focused on the welfare of those who often work behind the scenes. The organization’s consistent efforts over the years have transformed this annual drive into a beacon of support and gratitude for Qatar’s labor community.

KWIQ remains steadfast in its dedication to this simple yet profound movement of generosity. By providing essential sustenance, the Summer Kit Distribution not only meets the immediate needs of workers but also symbolizes the community’s appreciation for their hard work and dedication. The 7th season’s success reinforces KWIQ’s ongoing commitment to supporting those who contribute significantly to the nation’s development, often under the most challenging conditions. The initiative continues to inspire others to join hands in extending support to the unsung heroes of the community.
