Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater met with Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Cindy McCain in Doha on Tuesday.

The meeting dealt with ways to boost cooperation between Qatar and WFP in the humanitarian and development fields, besides the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The meeting stressed the importance of reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Strip, and means to overcome the obstacles placed by the Israeli occupation forces to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The meeting also dealt with the latest developments in Sudan and Yemen.

During the meeting, Khater expressed Qatar’s appreciation for the important role of the World Food Programme in the Gaza Strip and Sudan, and strongly condemned the targeting of humanitarian workers and the harassment they are subjected to in conflict zones.

For her part, the WFP executive director expressed her appreciation for Qatar’s mediation efforts aimed at ending the war on the Strip and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza without obstacles.

The Minister of State for International Cooperation also met with President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Kate Forbes and discussed the humanitarian conditions in a number of countries, especially in the Gaza Strip, the occupied Palestinian territories and Sudan.

The two sides agreed on the need for concerted efforts by the international community and humanitarian organisations to put an end to the tragic humanitarian conditions and violations to which civilians and humanitarian workers are exposed in war and conflict zones.

During the meeting, the Minister of State for International Cooperation expressed Qatar’s appreciation to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for its efforts in responding to relief and humanitarian needs in times of war and crisis.

For her part, the IFRC president thanked Qatar for its role in providing humanitarian aid and relief to those affected by conflict and natural disaster areas.

The meeting was attended by Secretary-General of the Qatar Red Crescent Faisal Mohammed Al Emadi.

Khater also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia Sara Beysolow Nyanti.

The meeting came on the sidelines of the 5th Observance of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack (IDPEA), marked by the Education Above All Foundation.

In addition to the bilateral cooperation relations and ways to boost them, they also discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories and several topics of common interest.

Besides, the Minister of State for International Cooperation met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia Ali Mohamed Omar.

The meeting dealt with relations between the two countries and means to support development projects in Somalia.
