All 10 Formula One teams came in under the cost cap in 2023, the governing FIA said in a statement on Tuesday, but engine suppliers Alpine and Honda were in procedural breach.

Media reports have swirled that some teams may be in breach, with rivals trading barbs about how much was being spent.

However the FIA said: “All 10 F1 Teams...found in compliance for 2023.”

Last year was the third year of the cost cap, which was brought in to limit spending, ensure the long-term viability of the championship and try to reduce the gap between teams.

With new power units (PUs) coming in 2026, the rules were extended to engine suppliers last year in a bid to keep spending in check.

“The review of the reporting documentation was a thorough and intensive process spanning five months with all F1 teams and all PU manufacturers giving their full support in providing the required information,” an FIA statement added.

“Although Alpine Racing SAS and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) have both been found to be in procedural breach, neither have exceeded the cost cap level. Both Alpine and HRC have acted at all times in good faith and are currently cooperating...to finalise the matter.”

The FIA hopes the two engine suppliers agree to a so-called accepted breach agreement where punishment is likely to be light if at all.
