Tribune News NetworkDohaThe Embassy of Indonesia in Qatar has kicked off a series of festive celebrations of the country’s Independence Day. Ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar HE Ridwan Hassan opened the celebration by holding sport matches at the Qatar Bowling Centre on Wednesday attended by the embassy staff and several representatives of its community members.To commemorate its Independence Day, the embassy has organised several activities such as sports, including bowling, badminton and table tennis matches, art and cultural competitions, workshop and exhibitions. The celebration will continue until early September 2022. "Independence Day is always special for every nation. For Indonesians, this year’s celebration is also different because it will mark the start of what we call the year of recovery,” said Ambassador Ridwan Hassan.The ambassador added that in order to recover from COVID-19, the world has no other choice but to strengthen its global cooperation, stressing that this is why Indonesia has introduced the motto of ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’ during its presidency at G20 this year. Indonesia proclaimed its independence on August 17, 1945. Now the country has transformed to be one of the global major powers. Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous nation and 10th largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity. Indonesia assumed the G20 Presidency this year, encouraging all countries to work together to achieve a stronger and more sustainable recovery from the pandemic’s impacts.
