DOHA: The Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition (S’hail 2024) continues to soar in success, drawing thousands of hunting and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region and beyond.

As the exhibition enters its third day, it is solidifying its position as the premier event for hunting and falconry enthusiasts in the Gulf and the Middle East, with an increasing number of visitors flocking to explore the rich heritage on display.

Highlighting the third day of the exhibition were the distinguished visits of Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, alongside Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

This year’s edition has witnessed remarkable attendance, with visitors praising the extensive range of exhibits, from hunting gear to four-wheel-drive vehicles modified for desert expeditions. The exhibition is not only attracting seasoned hunters and falconers but also art lovers, collectors, and those passionate about Qatar's cultural traditions.

Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee for S’hail 2024 Mohammed bin Abdulatif Al Masnad emphasized the unique elements of the exhibition in its eighth edition. "What sets this year’s S’hail apart is the strong presence of global companies specializing in hunting and outdoor equipment, alongside the significant participation of emerging and established Qatari companies," he said.

"The Organizing Committee has ensured that all logistical and organizational needs of participants are met, further enhancing the experience for both exhibitors and visitors."

Al Masnad added that reaching the eighth edition of S’hail is a testament to its standing among the top global exhibitions in the hunting and falconry sector. He also highlighted the continuous efforts to expand and develop the exhibition each year. "We are always looking for ways to improve, whether through expanding the exhibition or by attracting more international companies, all while strengthening the presence of Qatari businesses to offer them greater marketing opportunities for their high-quality products."

This year's edition features a particularly strong representation of companies specializing in customized four-wheel-drive vehicles designed for desert adventures and hunting trips. These vehicles, equipped with advanced technology to withstand the harsh desert environment, are highly sought after by outdoor enthusiasts. They are tailored to meet the unique needs of those passionate about hunting and falconry, further enhancing the exhibition’s appeal.

Beyond the hunting and falconry tools, S’hail 2024 has also become a vibrant platform for artistic expression, with 26 artists painting live, inspired by the desert landscapes and Qatar's rich falconry tradition. Among the featured artists is Sheikha Al Kuwari, known for her dynamic depictions of falcons in flight, using bold textures to combine realism with abstract representations of the Qatari desert.

Artist Hanifah Abdulqader has also made a significant impression, capturing the serene beauty of Qatar’s desert landscapes. Her work skillfully highlights the interplay of light and shadow on the dunes, while incorporating the intricate details of falcons, reflecting the peaceful yet powerful nature of these birds.

Meanwhile, Saeeda Habeeb brings an energetic vibrancy to her pieces, portraying the deep bond between falcons and their handlers. Her expressive brushstrokes emphasize the agility of the falcons, celebrating their close connection to nature and their handlers.

On Thursday evening, the exhibition also hosted a highly attended poetic and cultural session. Dr. Marcio Nunes, an expert in avian medicine, delivered a lecture on the role of Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis (CASA) in falcon breeding, highlighting how this technology is revolutionizing falcon breeding by providing accurate data.

In another engaging session, Dr Octavio Lisboa presented on Bumblefoot disease and the challenges of orthopaedic surgery in falcons, providing valuable insights to attendees interested in falcon health and welfare.

Dr Zubair bin Haider Meidamal, a noted academic and falconry specialist, also visited the exhibition, expressing his admiration for S’hail 2024 and its efforts to preserve and celebrate this ancient tradition. Dr Zubair is currently working on a 30-minute documentary titled 'Falcons and Falconry in the Arabian Gulf', which will be produced in both Arabic and English. The film will explore falconry in the Middle East, focusing on falcon breeds, their global significance, and the marvels of these birds, including their feeding habits, moulting process, and health care.
