The envoy specially thanked the authorities of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior ofand the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) for their valuable and professional contribution to ensuring and guaranteeing an exceptional success of the Paris 2024 Games.

In his tweet on X before the parade of champions that will mark the end of Olympics Paris 2024 on Saturday at the Champs Elysees, the French envoy said, “France is proud of this fraternal and ideal cooperation and the work achieved between the two countries in the spirit of one team ‘Shoulder to Shoulder‘, as the Minister said, which confirms the strength of the strategic partnership between our two countries. Long live the friendship between France and Qatar.”

A contingent of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior with more than 100 officers took part in the 33rd Summer Olympic and Paralympics Games Paris 2024 from July 26 to September 8. The contingent was led by Brigadier-General Nawaf Majid Al Ali.

Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani had said earlier that the mission of this force is an extension of their mission of maintaining security in Qatar, and that they will continue to carry out their duties with determination and professionalism, with Qatari security expertise becoming a valuable reference in major international events.

He added then that this participation reflects the strength and depth of the growing strategic partnership between Qatar and France, particularly in the security domain as it comes within the framework of an administrative agreement on security cooperation signed between the two countries last February.

A 14-member Qatari contingent, including eight male and female athletes, led by the world champion Mutaz Barshim, who had earlier won silver medals in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, and gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, obtained Bronze medal for Qatar in the 33rd edition of the Summer Olympics (Paris 2024).

Qatari athletes participated in five different events in 33rd Summer Games in Paris 2024. Mohammed Saeed Al Misnad was Chef De Mission of Qatar’s delegation.

Qatar had achieved an unprecedented milestone at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by winning three medals, including two gold medals by Mutaz Barshim in the high jump, by Fares Ibrahim in the 96 kg weightlifting, and a bronze medal by the beach volleyball team of Ahmed Tijan and Sherif Younis, ranking first in the Arab world.
