Al Jazeera Media Network is set to launch its newest venture “Al Jazeera 360”, a digital streaming and video-on-demand platform today, Sunday, September 15, 2024.

The platform aims to redefine how the network’s content reaches its audience, offering a vast library of over 50,000 hours of programmes and documentaries, along with more than 20 exclusive new productions.

The launch of Al Jazeera 360 comes at a crucial time for the media landscape, as many platforms face increasing restrictions and content censorship. With its unrestricted access, the new platform positions itself as a gateway for the public to engage with Al Jazeera’s diverse content, providing viewers with the freedom to explore a wide range of topics, from culture and entertainment to in-depth investigations and religious discussions.

A New Home for Al Jazeera’s Arabic Programmes

The platform also marks the return of Al Jazeera Arabic’s programmes, which have been off-air since October 2023 due to continuous coverage of regional events. These programmes will now be available exclusively on Al Jazeera 360, offering viewers a new format and a fresh perspective. Content from Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, AJ+ Arabi, Al Jazeera O2 platform, and the “Atheer” podcast platform will also be featured, providing a comprehensive digital archive since the network’s inception in 1996.

A Commitment to Free and Open Access

Al Jazeera 360 makes all of its content available to the public free of charge, reinforcing Al Jazeera’s commitment to accessible media.

Chairman of Al Jazeera Media Network HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani said, “The platform carries the Network’s message and identity of empowering people with accurate and balanced media content that commits to professionalism.”

Dr Mostefa Souag, acting director-general of Al Jazeera Media Network, highlighted the platform’s focus on offering viewers the freedom to choose content on their terms.“The new platform carries the spirit of Al Jazeera, to which the Arabic-speaking viewers are accustomed. Content with integrity, respect and placing the human are at the heart of everything Al Jazeera offers,” Dr. Souag emphasised.

Expanding Horizons and Empowering New Voices

In line with its strategy of expansion, Al Jazeera 360 has attracted prominent Arab media figures and opened opportunities for emerging talents, bringing new voices to the forefront of the Arab media landscape.

Dr Souag said, “The 360 platform is a channel for the entire network, reflecting its vitality and continuous output. It is the latest addition that continues Al Jazeera’s strategy based on a set of values and objectives, including expansion.”

Mounir Daymi, executive director of Al Jazeera’s Digital Division, described the platform as “an extension of Al Jazeera’s successes and a continuation of what we have been working on for 28 years.” This approach aims to foster a more interactive relationship with the network’s extensive audience, built on trust and credibility.

Jamal Elshayyal, manager of Content Strategy for Al Jazeera 360, expressed gratitude to the dedicated team behind the platform.He referred to the launch as “a declaration of independence for Arab media,” emphasising the challenges faced by media outlets due to the restrictive policies of social media platforms.

The launch of Al Jazeera 360 represents a bold step for the network in a rapidly evolving media landscape. At a time when digital platforms are under scrutiny for their content policies, Al Jazeera 360 offers a platform where diverse voices can be heard, and stories can be told without limitations.
