Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani met with President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly Philemon Yang at the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The meeting discussed the most important common priorities for Qatar and the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly during the 79th session, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation and multilateral action.
Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN congratulated Yang on assuming the position, affirming Qatar’s full support for the initiatives put forward by the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
Sheikha Alya also met with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on priorities for the United Nations during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
She also met with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan Roza Otunbayeva.
During the meeting, they reviewed the current situation in Afghanistan and the international endeavours aimed at ensuring stability and improving the conditions of the Afghan people.
Both sides hailed the close and ongoing cooperation between Qatar and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
