Qatar, through its General Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), hosted the 20th meeting of the Executive Committee of Civil Aviation in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. This important gathering brought together top civil aviation officials from across the GCC to discuss key developments and strategies in the region’s aviation sector.
Mohammed bin Faleh Al Hajri, in charge of QCAA, represented Qatar at the meeting and delivered the opening speech. In his address, Al Hajri warmly welcomed the heads of the GCC civil aviation authorities and emphasised the importance of collaboration to ensure leadership in the rapidly evolving civil aviation industry. He stressed the necessity of joint efforts to tackle the challenges facing the sector and the value of sharing expertise and best practices.
Al Hajri highlighted the priority of integrating air systems and modernising aviation infrastructure to maintain safety and operational efficiency. He commended the collective efforts of the GCC nations in fostering cooperation, which has significantly contributed to strengthening ties at multiple levels between the member states.
The Gulf region’s air transport industry plays a vital role on the global stage, and its advanced standing is a direct result of these concerted efforts, Al Hajri remarked.
The meeting covered a range of important topics, including the establishment of a Gulf Civil Aviation Authority and the development of a unified programme for assessing the safety of foreign aircraft operating at GCC airports. Discussions also touched on the implementation of a blacklist mechanism for safety concerns and the achievements in air navigation and aviation across the GCC.
Additional discussions included updates on the ongoing efforts to create a unified upper airspace for the GCC countries and future cooperation with Turkey and Central Asian nations in the fields of transportation and communications. The meeting underscored the shared commitment of the GCC member states to enhance cooperation and advance the region’s aviation sector.
