Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar HE Nguyen Huy Hiep has lauded the comprehensive local and global developments Qatar has recorded in recent years.

"I am confident that under the guidance of the leaders from both countries, the relations between Vietnam and Qatar will continue to develop positively and effectively in the future, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” the envoy said in his address at an event to celebrate the 79th National Day of Vietnam.

The event was attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Qatar HEMohamed bin Ali bin Mohamed Al Mannai, Director of Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Ibrahim Fakhroo, Head of Asian Ambassadors’ Group and Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam HE Mohamed Bahrin Abu Bakar, members of diplomatic Corp, and guests.

The ambassador congratulated the people of Qatar for their tremendous achievements in building a modern and prosperous nation, under the wise leadership of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

"We also highly appreciate the foresight foreign policies implemented by Qatar, which have heightened its role and prestige regionally and globally. Qatar remains an important partner of Vietnam in the Middle East region. Vietnam and Qatar enjoy great friendship and cooperation that dates back three decades, based on mutual trust and benefits,” he said.

He added, "In fact, the two countries have been exchanging delegations of different levels and keep maintaining important cooperation mechanism, as well as supporting each other at international forums. Besides that, the two-way trade volume varies around $400 to $500 million from year to year. In 2023, many economic and cultural activities were initiated and organised by both sides to joyfully celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.”

He noted that Vietnam is keen on unlocking further potential of cooperation with Qatar, particularly in investment and trade, and new areas of digital transformation, green energy and halal industry, for mutual benefits of people of the two countries.

The Vietnamese envoy expressed his solidarity and condolences to victims of the Yagi Typhoon and the following deadly floods and landslides, which swept several parts of Vietnam and its neighbouring countries over the past week.

Paying tributes to the great leader of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh, who had read aloud the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in the month of September in 1945,

ambassador Huy Hiep said that September 2 is considered a significant milestone in Vietnam’s thousand-year journey to build and defend the country since it opened a new era of freedom, independence, sovereignty and happiness.

"Every year on that day, people in Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese turn to the homeland with all their pride and gratitude to honour the heroic journey of their forefathers and to express their unity for a brighter future of their beloved nation,” he said.

He added that over the past 79 years, from a war-torn country, Vietnam, with its tireless efforts, has turned into a model of success story, a symbol of peace, stability, hospitality, and a destination for international investors and tourists.

A documentary was shown about Vietnam’s new development - a country having thousands years of unique cultural richness, heroism to indulge in vibrant cities with beautiful natural landscapes along with delicious gastronomy.
