Qatar University (QU) hosted an engaging event titled ‘Discover Your Sport’ in celebration of International University Sports Day. Organised by the Sports Affairs Department at QU in collaboration with the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF), the event aimed to promote sports culture and encourage students to adopt a healthier, more active lifestyle.

The event saw participation from several members of the university, including vice presidents of QU, deans of the colleges, the president and members of QCSF, as well as faculty members, staff, and students.

This initiative was designed to raise sports awareness among both male and female students at QU, encouraging them to integrate physical activity into their daily routines. It also served as a platform for recruiting talented athletes into the university’s sports teams while familiarizing participants with the university’s state-of-the-art sports facilities.

Dr. Senaid Salem Al-Marri, director of Sports Affairs Department at QU, highlighted the significance of the event in supporting the university’s mission to develop well-rounded graduates. He emphasized that sports play an integral role in shaping leadership qualities and fostering a balanced student experience.

Dr. Al-Marri stated, “The ‘Discover Your Sport’ event aligns perfectly with QU’s vision of producing highly capable and effective graduates. Our mission is to promote sports and support student athletes, helping them stand out both academically and athletically. We aim to engage a larger number of students in sports teams and select the most talented to represent the university in local and international competitions, fostering leadership and a balanced student life.”

The event offered a wide variety of sporting activities for male students, ranging from track and field to basketball, volleyball, and football. The multi-purpose gym hosted warm-up and fitness sessions, while other facilities offered stationary cycling, cool-down exercises, and table tennis.

Female students were also provided with fitness and warm-up sessions, held in the same multi-purpose gym. These activities were designed to encourage participation and make physical fitness more accessible to everyone, regardless of their skill level.

‘Discover Your Sport’ is part of QU’s ongoing efforts to promote physical health and well-being across its campus. The event reinforced the importance of sports in fostering a healthy lifestyle while offering students opportunities to connect, compete, and thrive within the university community.
