A state-of-the-art movie theatre at Souq Waqif, which is gaining popularity by the day, is likely to be officially opened sometime between October and November, according to an official.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune recently, Marketing Manager at Novo Cinemas Kevin Campbell said although the theatre was opened to the public a few months ago, the official opening is still being planned.
"We are aiming for the period between October and November to announce the official opening when the weather cools a bit. We are also waiting to pair the official launch with a quality movie," he said.
The idea behind Novo Cinemas' newest movie theatre in Souq Waqif was to bring the Novo experience to the Souq's audience in a theatre featuring a heritage design synonymous with the look and feel of the popular Souq with a touch of modernity, according to Campbell.
Campbell said the Souq Waqif theatre recently hosted the premiere screening of the movie 'Predator' which got a great reception from the audience who loved the theatre.
"The Souq Waqif theatre is a boutique-style movie theatre with a total of five halls, four of which featuring traditional screens and seating capacity of around 118 spectators each, in addition to one seven-star theatre offering the Novo seven-star movie experience," he explained.
According to Campbell, the seven-star experience gives the audience the comfort of a sofa-style seating with fully reclining seats, a blanket and a seven-star menu that allows them to dine-in within the theatre.
"The seven-star experience, which received favourable feedback from our customers in terms of service, cleanliness and comfort, allows spectators to view movies in additional comfort through its unique and high-end characteristics. The fee of the seven-star ticket is QR150, including a full-course meal," he added.
Citizens and residents who have visited the Souq Waqif movie theatre so far reported that the traditionally designed venue is a great addition to the movie viewing experience in Qatar as it is the first theatre located outside of a shopping mall.
One of the visitors said:"The Souq Waqif theatre's architecture is beautifully harmonious with the heritage structure of Souq Waqif. It represents a great addition to the entertainment options in Qatar since visitors of Souq Waqif can now enjoy shisha, traditional shopping, and falcon and camel viewing paired with a movie night without having to visit a shopping mall."
