In a grand celebration of Engineer’s Day, Karnataka Sangha Qatar, in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Center (ICC), paid tributes to Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshwarayya on his 163rd birth anniversary in the Ashoka Hall premises of the Indian Cultural Center on September 15. This day, dedicated to the memory of one of India’s greatest engineers, was marked by technical presentations, heartfelt speeches, and the felicitation of community leaders.

The chief guest of the event was the Ambassador of India to Qatar HE Vipul. The programme brought together engineers, community members, and cultural leaders to pay tribute to Sir Vishweshwarayya’s legacy of innovation, leadership, and service to society.

A key highlight of the evening was the awarding of the prestigious ‘Abhiyantarasri-2024’ title to Indian Cultural Center (ICC) Vice President Subramanya Hebbagelu by Karnataka Sangha Qatar. The award was presented to recognise Hebbagelu’s exceptional achievements as an engineer and his dedicated contributions to the community. His efforts in social service and his ongoing commitment to the betterment of society have made a significant impact, earning him admiration from all corners of the Indian community in Qatar.

During his acceptance speech, Hebbagelu expressed his sincere gratitude to the president and the management committee of Karnataka Sangha Qatar for bestowing him with this honour. He reflected on his journey, mentioning that he arrived in Qatar 17 years ago, seeking employment. At that time, he knew only a few colleagues, but over the years, his involvement in community service has connected him with a vast network of friends, colleagues, and community leaders, for whom he remains deeply thankful.

Hebbagelu emphasised that his inspiration to serve stems from a genuine desire to help those in need. He shared, “I wake up each day with renewed energy and hope to make a difference. Every day is an opportunity to serve more people, uplift those in despair, and provide comfort to the helpless.”

His words resonated deeply with the audience, particularly as he highlighted how balancing his demanding role as a QA QC engineer and Project Coordinator at Galfar Al Misnad with his social work allows him to contribute to society in meaningful ways.

The celebration of Engineer’s Day also featured various technical presentations that showcased the innovative spirit of engineers in Qatar. These presentations were a fitting tribute to Sir Vishweshwarayya, whose legacy of engineering excellence continues to inspire generations of professionals around the world.
