Qatar participated in the high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al Thani represented Qatar in the meeting.

In a speech during the meeting, Sheikha Hanouf reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast support for the UNAOC and emphasised the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges that threaten peace and security.

She stressed the need to promote the values of peace, tolerance and dialogue among cultures and religions.

She also touched on the current situation in Gaza, highlighting the necessity of decisive action to end the humanitarian suffering and achieve a just peace, highlighting Qatar’s leading role in supporting the Alliance.

She noted that Qatar hosted the fourth UNAOC forum in Doha in 2011 and has provided approximately USD 7.6 million to support UNAOC initiatives since 2006.

Sheikha Hanouf reiterated Qatar’s commitment to working with the international community to promote peace and build bridges of mutual understanding.
