The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) concluded the 10th Qatar Patient Safety Week, held under the theme ‘Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety’. The event brought together local and international experts, healthcare leaders, workers, patients and families, with participation from key institutions like the Ministry of Defence and Qatar Airways.

The week featured various workshops on quality improvement, communication of medical errors, and patient-centred care, involving 288 healthcare professionals. More than 1,900 healthcare workers attended scientific conference sessions, where the latest in diagnosis and patient safety were reviewed. Experts emphasised the role of accurate diagnosis and modern technology in reducing medical errors. Global best practices in patient safety were also shared.

An awareness campaign during the week saw a public booth set up in a shopping mall, engaging more than 171 participants who had their vital signs, BMI, and blood sugar levels measured. The public was introduced to patient safety concepts, educated on diagnostic safety, and encouraged to share their experiences. The booth also offered guidance on home diagnostic devices and featured a children’s clinic to teach symptoms through play.

In celebration of World Patient Safety Day, 20 key institutions illuminated their buildings in orange to highlight diagnostic safety. Healthcare institutions also held lectures and competitions to raise awareness among staff and motivate continued efforts to protect patient safety.

At the conclusion of Qatar Patient Safety Week, participants recommended ongoing efforts to improve patient safety, emphasising the need for training, technology integration, and enhanced diagnostic accuracy. Since its inception in 2014, Qatar Patient Safety Week has promoted collaboration between the Ministry of Public Health, healthcare providers, and the community to ensure safer health care in Qatar.
