THE Community College of Qatar (CCQ) strives to provide students with quality education in an environment that is conducive to student success.
According to CCQ President Dr Mohamed Ibrahim al Naemi, in order to further enhance the College's holistic learning environment for its students, more support is needed to upgrade CCQ's facilities especially the ones that utilise government schools' buildings.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar Tribune recently, Al Naemi noted that expansion plans of the facilities are being studied with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics while trying to maintain the geographical distribution of CCQ centres across the country for the convenience of students residing in different areas.
The CCQ president said that in addition to CCQ's existing campuses in West Bay, and the main campus in Lusail accommodating the largest number of students, CCQ is opening another campus in Al Khor soon. He added that the institution is currently working with the resources available within the current budget and the government support.
"Considering the phenomenal growth CCQ is experiencing and the growing number of students who choose our institution to pursue higher education, we try to accommodate them and support them to reach their various goals," Al Naemi said.
He noted that CCQ shares numerous collaborations with many international academic institutions, some in Chicago and Florida, having large colleges and offering many programmes, including PhDs.
According to Al Naemi, CCQ's collaboration with international academic institutions aims to allow CCQ students to pursue their education in these institutions in addition to exchanging expertise in administrative management strategies and assessing the quality of programmes.
Furthermore, the CCQ president noted that the College maintains many partnerships with local educational establishments, mainly Qatar University, in addition to future plans for collaboration with the Northwestern University Qatar. He added that CCQ shares a strong cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
"In addition to the highly successful collaboration with the ministry in the early education programme which graduated more than 300 students, many CCQ faculty members participate in the ministry's committees for different activities. The ministry also facilitates CCQ's collaboration with other institutions in the country," Al Naemi said.
With regard to the unjust siege, CCQ president noted that the College accommodated a limited number of Qatari students who returned from the blockade countries and their academic situations are being looked into on a case-by-case basis.
"We are trying to support them as much as possible by enabling them to graduate in time. The main difficulties we are facing in that regard are related to their certificates' equivalency process, but the College is working towards reaching a solution that won't set them back or delay their graduation. And no complaints were received from the part of these students so far," Al Naemi added.
