Prince William led the celebrations in the stands as Aston Villa stunned Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League like they had in the 1982 final, and Lille also claimed a famous 1-0 victory over title holders Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Super-sub Jhon Duran was the hero for Villa in their first home game in 41 years in the elite event when he lobbed the winner over stranded goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the 79th minute.

It was Bayern’s first defeat in a group stage (now league stage) match in seven years since a 3-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain in September 2017, with Villa manager Unai Emery then in charge at PSG.

There was also no luck for the record champions Real who crashed in Lille from Jonathan David’s first-half penalty, as not even the return of Kylian Mbappe as a sub helped the Spanish giants.

While Real and Bayern dropped their first points, Liverpool joined Villa on two wins from two thanks to a 2-0 over Bologna from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah.

So did Juventus, who fought to an improbable 3-2 comeback victory at RB Leipzig with 10 men. Benfica thumped Atletico Madrid 4-0 to get a second win as well as they joined Borussia Dortmund, Brest and Bayer Leverkusen, who remained perfect on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Atalanta won 3-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord prevailed 3-2 at Girona, Club Brugge won 1-0 at Sturm Graz, and Dinamo Zagreb drew 2-2 with Monaco.

Liverpool win again

Liverpool wasted no time to take the lead with Mac Allister tapping home Salah’s cross at the far left post 12 minutes into the Anfield game.

Bologna, who had an early goal disallowed for offside, battled back as Dan Ndoye hit the crossbar and the outside left post a little later.

Salah curled inches left after the hour but the Egyptian found the target in the 75th with a curler into the top left corner for the final score.

Juventus hit back

A 10-man Juve hit back Leipzig took the lead against Juve on the counter after half an hour, with Sesko smashing in off the crossbar. Juve levelled in the 50th Vlahovic flicked an Andrea Cambiaso cross into the far corner but it then looked grim for the twice champions.

Goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio was sent off on the hour for handling the ball outside the area.

The ensuing free-kick from Xavi Simons hit the arm of Douglas Luiz which prompted another long review before a penalty was awarded, with Sesko sending new Juve keeper Mattia Perin the wrong way.

But the Italians refused to bow, were level again from Vlahovic’s 68th-minute stunner into the top left corner, and Francisco Conceicao slotted an improbable winner in the 83rd.
