LONDON: Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has won the Distinguished Commendation Award in the 'Global Operator of the Year' category of the 'Global Light Rail Awards' for the year 2024, in a new international achievement added to the company's series of successes.
The award was received by representatives of the senior management team of the Rail Company during the 'Global Light Rail Awards' ceremony held in London, UK, with the participation of about 500 representatives of more than 110 major companies operating, maintaining and managing light rail services and systems around the world.
The award includes 16 award categories, the most prominent of which is the 'Global Operator of the Year' category, in which Qatar Rail competed and was among the three finalists for its award.
The award reflects the company’s commitment to providing world-class and sustainable transportation services and consolidating its position as a leading operator of advanced railway transportation systems. It also enhances its position as one of the most prominent railway service operators at the regional and international levels.
Winning this award is a confirmation of the outstanding performance of the transportation networks managed by Qatar Rail, including the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram, which provide effective transportation solutions that support Qatar National Vision 2030 in promoting sustainability and urban development in the cities of Doha and Lusail and their suburbs, and the great efforts made by the company to support the integrated public transportation system in the State of Qatar, in addition to being a confirmation of the company’s ongoing commitment to improving mobility in the State of Qatar by providing an integrated transportation experience covering the most prominent main destinations in the city of Doha.
This recognition comes after a series of achievements made by Qatar Rail over the past years, through its excellence in operational performance, customer service, and the company’s outstanding safety record, in addition to its significant contribution to the success of major events hosted by the State of Qatar, such as the 2022 World Cup, the 2023 Asian Cup, and other local and international events.
