US President Joe Biden on Friday evening expressed confidence that the upcoming presidential election will be conducted fairly, but he raised concerns about potential unrest.

“I’m confident it [the election] will be free and fair. I don’t know whether it will be peaceful,” Biden said.

Biden voiced scepticism regarding the Republican opposition’s willingness to accept the election results.

“I noticed that the vice presidential Republican candidate [JD Vance] did not say he’d accept the outcome of the election,” Biden said.

“They haven’t even accepted the outcome of the last election. So I’m concerned about what they’re going to do.”

As the election campaign intensifies, fears of politically motivated violence remain high. The recent assassination attempt on Republican candidate Donald Trump has sparked further discussions about the state of political discourse in the US.

The violent storming of the Capitol by former president Donald Trump supporters following his defeat in the 2020 election has raised concerns about the nation’s political climate.
