World number one Jannik Sinner booked his place in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters with a comeback victory against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Sinner lost the opening set on a tie-break before he bounced back to secure a 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2 win in two hours and 39 minutes.

The top seed, whose 15-match winning streak ended with a defeat by rival Carlos Alcaraz at the China Open, will face Roberto Carballes Baena or Ben Shelton for a place in the quarter-finals as he bids to secure his seventh title this year.

“It was a very tough match, physically and mentally, so I am very happy to get through this one,” said Sinner.

“I felt like it was a tough set that I lost. I had my chances (to win the first set), but these things can happen.”

Alcaraz was also in action and earned his spot in the fourth round with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over wildcard Wu Yibing.

Gauff wins China Open

Coco Gauff delivered an emphatic performance to dominate Karolina Muchova and win the China Open in Beijing on Sunday. Contesting her first final in nine months, the 20-year-old dropped just four games against the unseeded Muchova as she sealed a 6-1, 6-3 victory in an hour and 16 minutes.
