The State of Qatar won membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2025-2027, with the support of 167 countries in the elections held on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani expressed Qatar’s pride over the vote, saying that it’s an achievement that reflects international appreciation for Qatar’s firm commitment to protecting and promoting human rights at the national and international levels.
She added that this victory is a culmination of Qatar’s continuous efforts to promote the values of justice, equality, and human rights, and reflects confidence in its constructive role in the Human Rights Council.
She said that Qatar affirms, through this victory, its commitment to continue working with all member states to achieve progress in various human rights fields, and to enhance dialogue and cooperation in order to find effective solutions to global challenges.
She stressed that Qatar will work to achieve the goals it has set for itself in protecting human rights, defending vulnerable groups, and supporting all efforts aimed at enhancing human dignity.
Sheikha Alya stressed that Qatar will remain a partner committed to the basic principles of human rights, and will work hard to promote these principles around the world.
