Al Noor Centre for the Blind, a centre under the Qatar Foundation for Social Work and affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, organised awareness events on Thursday to mark World Sight Day and White Cane Day.

The activities aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of supporting individuals with visual impairments and highlighted the latest tools and technologies used to assess and treat vision issues.

The events included the opening of a special booth at Vendome Mall, featuring various activities and introducing the public to the centre’s services, enhancing understanding of the centre’s role in improving the quality of life for people with visual impairments.

The activities also emphasised the importance of regular eye examinations, while showcasing the latest developments related to visual impairments. Additionally, they highlighted the untapped potential of visually impaired individuals.

Mishal Abdullah Al Nuaimi, executive director of Al Noor Centre for the Blind, stated that community awareness is key to supporting people with visual impairments and enhancing their independence. He added that the activities at the Vendome Mall booth reflected their commitment to offering innovative solutions and creating an interactive learning environment to help visually impaired individuals realise their full potential.

Al Nuaimi also noted that these activities would contribute to increasing community understanding of the white cane as an essential tool for integration and self-mobility, while also emphasising the importance of regular eye examinations to maintain eye health.

The events at the Vendome Mall booth will continue for three days, featuring interactive workshops aimed at raising awareness about the role of the white cane in the lives of visually impaired individuals.
