In light of the many health challenges the region faces, strengthening cooperation at the GCC level, as well as regionally and internationally, is critical for improving efficiency and advancinghealth security,Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari has said.

She said so while addressing the 10th Meeting of the GCC Health Ministers Committee in Doha, on Thursday.Qatar also hosted the 87th Meeting of the Health Ministers Council of the GCC. Both meetings were chaired by Dr Al Kuwari.

The health minister added, "Despite the significant achievements our countries have made in healthcare, it is through continued joint efforts, the constant development of health services and technologies, and the nurturing of a skilled health workforce that we can ensure a healthier future for our citizens.”

Stressing the importance of the topics being discussed at the GCC Health Ministers Committee meeting, she said, "One of these topics is the Healthy Cities initiative, a global programme launched by the World Health Organization, which seeks to place health at the top of the social and political agenda for cities. We are proud of the distinction our GCC countries have achieved in this regard, and we are honoured that Qatar is the first country in the world to have all its municipalities receive the title of Healthy City.”

She added, "Another key topic is the implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005), which aim to strengthen the prevention of communicable diseases and promote international cooperation in health, along with advancing the committee’s action plan and training programmes.” (QNA)
