MadridcTypeface:> Eleven migrants are presumed to have died in a boat accident east of the Spanish island of Mallorca, authorities said on Saturday. Three of the boat’s occupants were rescued alive in the Mediterranean on Friday evening by the Spanish maritime rescue service, the Spanish central government’s representation on the Balearic Islands said. The survivors were taken to the Son Espases hospital in the Mallorcan capital of Palma. The rescued people - two 15-year-olds and a 21-year-old - said during an initial questioning by the police in the hospital that the boat had set sail from the Algerian coast around three weeks ago with 14 people on board. Eleven fellow passengers fell into the water and drowned when the boat capsized between Spain’s Menorca island and Italy’s Sardinia. The search for the bodies has so far been unsuccessful, according to the authorities. The rescue operation took place around 100 nautical miles (approximately 185 kilometres) east of Mallorca. (dpa)
