Two Qatar University (QU) College of Pharmacy (CPH) students, Muneera Abdullah and Youmna Al-Alami, have succeeded in bringing recognition to their college by achieving second place in the recently held 82nd International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) World Congress for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, under the theme ‘Innovating for the Future of Health Care,’ which was held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Both students contributed towards their research poster on an innovative topic that attracted the attention of their peers as well as experts.
The research, titled ‘A Systematic Review of Teaching Competencies on Disaster Medicine and Preparedness among Students in Healthcare Colleges’, was conducted under the supervision of CPH Dean Prof. Mohammad Izham Mohammad Ibrahim. The research poster sheds light on the importance of teaching healthcare students to be fully prepared for disaster management during a critical time. Competing against 86 posters between the Social and Administrative Pharmacy (SAPS) section, Muneera Abdullah and Youmna Al-Alami stood out in both their presentation and the research itself, showcasing clarity, innovation, and the potential impact of their work.
Reflecting on their experience, Youmna Al Alami expressed how much the recognition meant to her stating, "This has been an unforgettable experience for us. Winning second place in the FIP congress as first-time participants is an invaluable accomplishment and a true reward after all the dedication and effort we poured into our research. It fills me with immense pride, deep satisfaction, and overwhelming happiness. This opportunity not only expanded our knowledge and experience but also opened countless new doors, broadening our intellectual horizons in ways we never imagined.”
For Muneera Abdullah, the journey was equally transformative, she said, "Being part of the FIP world congress for the first time and winning the 2nd prize in an international competition is a huge achievement in my academic career. It validates the hard work and dedication I have put into my research. This experience has not only enriched my education but also inspired me to continue and expand in my research. Lastly, I am very thankful to the College of Pharmacy for providing us this opportunity along with the skills and knowledge that distinguish us from others.”
