Doha Forum (DF) and the World Humanitarian Forum (WHF) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the role of humanitarian diplomacy through closer collaboration and dialogue.

The MoU was signed ahead of a high-level panel discussion entitled ‘Addressing Global Crises: The Role of Humanitarian Diplomacy in a Fragmented Era’, held at the UK’s Houses of Parliament. The event brought together influential leaders and experts to discuss the urgent need for effective humanitarian strategies to address global crises in today’s increasingly fragmented world. Executive Director of Doha Forum Mubarak Al Kuwari said, “This collaboration demonstrates the shared commitment of Doha Forum and the World Humanitarian Forum to tacking today’s global challenges through meaningful dialogue and strategic cooperation on humanitarian issues.”

Doha Forum General Manager Maha Al Kuwari said, “Humanitarian diplomacy plays a crucial role in bridging divides, fostering understanding, and finding actionable solutions. Doha Forum embraces this opportunity to engage in dialogue with global leaders and experts to explore how we can work together to build a better future for all.”

In her opening speech during the panel discussion, CEO of WHF Feraye Ozfescioglu said, “Today’s event is providing a platform for dialogue on the role of diplomacy in addressing today’s pressing global humanitarian challenges. We are delighted to partner with Doha Forum and join forces to transform the conversations into action.”

Featured panellists included Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, Minister for International Development and the Minister for Women and Equalities and Minister for Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK Anneliese Dodds, and former Minister of State at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon. The MoU signing and panel discussion were held ahead of DF’s annual flagship event scheduled to be held in Doha on December 7 and 8, 2024, under the patronage of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The WHF will attend this year’s event, which will feature high-level sessions on humanitarian diplomacy. The event will bring together global leaders, policymakers, thinkers and influencers to address the world’s most pressing issues, under the theme ‘The Innovation Imperative’.
