Jerusalem - According to the Israeli military, police in the Israeli-occupied West Bank have shot dead a Palestinian who deliberately rammed a security jeep with his car on Saturday.

The incident occurred near the entrance to the Jewish settlement of Ofra, located north of Ramallah.

Video of the incident released by the Israeli public broadcaster Kan shows a policeman standing at the open door of the off-road vehicle just seconds before the collision.

The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas described the attacker as a "resistance fighter,” and claimed that his act was a response to the crimes of the Israeli occupation and the terror against the Palestinian people.

Violence in the West Bank has increased sharply in the past year since the bloody Hamas-led October 7 terror attacks. The West Bank has seen an increase in both Palestinian attacks on Israelis and violence by extremist Jewish settlers. (dpa)
