His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will begin a state visit on Sunday to the friendly Italian Republic, followed by an official visit to the friendly Federal Republic of Germany.

During the two visits, His Highness the Amir will discuss, with leaders and senior officials of the two countries, ways to strengthen friendship and cooperation ties in multiple fields, in addition to a range of regional and global issues of common concern.

His Highness the Amir will be accompanied by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and an official delegation.

Highlighting the significance of His Highness the Amir’svisit to Italy in bolstering the bilateral relations and opening up new horizons for cooperation across multiple fields, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Italian Republic HE Khalid bin Youssef Al Sada stressed that the visit affirms the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The ambassador said the visit comes at an important time in light of Qatar’s pivotal role in securing energy supplies to Europe, noting that the focus would be on strengthening partnershipsin order to ensure constant cooperation, as Italy is the second largest importer of Qatari gas in Europe.

In reference to the most important topics to be taken up during the visit, the ambassador said the two sides will discuss issues related to economic cooperation, trade and investment, as well as cultural cooperation noting that the two sides are set to sign several memoranda of understanding, aiming to boost partnership in these fields.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the State of Qatar HE Paolo Toschi stressed that the visit of His Highness the Amir to Italy will strengthen relations between the two countries and raise the level of bilateral cooperation to the highest levels in all fields.

Italy welcomes His Highness the Amir as a global leader of diplomacy and international law and a strong supporter of the multilateral world order, the Italian ambassador said.

The envoy said both Italy and Qatar are engaged together in a number of ongoing endeavours that they want to further strengthen, starting with the many crises that are part of the global agenda today.

He explained that Italy and Qatar worked together to affirm the rule of international law, provide humanitarian aid, resolve conflicts peacefully instead of through violence, and protect civilians under any circumstances.

He also expressed his concern about the situation in Lebanon, where Italy participates in the UNIFIL mission and works to achieve a ceasefire in its capacity as chair of the G7, noting that this situation is a source of great concern for everyone.

The ambassador stressed that his country supported the Qatari mediation to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, adding that the two countries are working together on the humanitarian side, especially in helping civilians affected by the war in Gaza, whether by providing health assistance and food to people inside and outside the Strip.
