The men’s 2027 Champions League final is set to take place in Baku or Madrid while there are four bidders for the women’s final, the ruling body UEFA said on Wednesday. The men’s final was originally to take place in Milan, but the Italian city could not guarantee that renovation of the San Siro arena and the surrounding area would be completed in time. Now Azerbaijan with Baku’s Olympic Stadium and Spain with Athletico Madrid’s home arena, the Estadio Metropolitano, have declared their interest. The four interested parties for the 2027 women’s final are Wales with Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Spain with Barcelona’s Camp Nou, Polish National Stadium in Warsaw and St Jakob Park in Basel, Switzerland. Formal bids must be submitted by March 2025 and the host will be announced two months later. The 2025 and 2026 finals are in Munich and Budapest, respectively, on the men’s side, and in Lisbon and Oslo for the women. (DPA)
